The Graduate Student Learning Initiative (GSLI) is an umbrella group that brings together services from across campus that support graduate students in their multiple roles as learners, researchers, instructors, and professionals.
Most workshops offered by the GSLI can be found on the online event registration system.
The list of offerings is searchable and useful sub-headings are “Graduate Student Programs” found under “All The Learning Commons Events”, “All Graduate Studies Events”, and “All Co-Operative Education and Career Services Events”.
Registration for teaching workshops occurs through the Open Learning and Educational Support.
Sign up for individual consultations from Writing Services occurs through their online booking system.
Appointments for other services can be made by contacting staff in the service area.
GSLI services are offered free of charge to all graduate students registered at the University of Guelph.
Yes, it is possible to request workshops for small groups of graduate students, or graduate-level classes. Workshop requests can be made by contacting the GSLI member responsible for the skills you would like to have addressed in the workshop. For contact details, see the list of workshop topics on the Information for Faculty page. If you would like assistance finding the right person, email gsli@uoguelph.ca.
If you can’t attend a scheduled workshop there a couple of alternatives you might pursue. First, you can email the workshop instructor to see if handouts are available. In some cases it’s possible to book individual consultations to address your particular needs. Perhaps most importantly, GSLI workshops run in the fall and winter semesters, and many also run during the spring semester as well. If you can’t make it to a workshop this semester, you can always register next semester.
The GSLI is committed to providing a broad range of educational opportunities for graduate students. Our goal is to help students develop the skills they need to be successful. Our website is a good place to start looking for assistance. If you know what kind of services you need, please contact the GSLI service area that offers skill development in the relevant topic(s). If you need help determining what services will be the most useful to you, email gsli@uoguelph.ca
GSLI services are only available to graduate students registered at the University of Guelph.
